Foundations

Early path into IT

  • 1984: Apple IIe — first digital world awareness and early coding.
  • Navy: Used an old 286 to maintain training records for his department.
  • 1991+: Hand-me-down Apple; computer work by referral.
  • 1996+: Built first PC; hundreds of purpose-fit builds since.

Systems & kit

Hardware & Tools

First built a computer in 1996 after years of upgrading PCs. Custom builds last longer and stay flexible — parts are hand-picked from specialists and sized to the machine’s purpose, not over- or under-powered.

Hardware has changed drastically — from 4 MB of RAM feeling like a lot, to thousands of times that as a baseline — along with the types of devices we connect.

Beyond the rack

Creative & Multimedia

IT that overlaps with design, audio, web, and immersive media.

Web & SEO

HTML, PHP, MySQL, Apache. Built multiple business sites — including leisure and corporate travel — and used SEO to grow presence.

Graphic design

Adobe Creative Suite experience from agency-side work at First Impressions, supporting advertisement and web production.

Audio & multimedia

Helped stand up a soundproof room and equipment for in-house audio production alongside multimedia processing systems.

360 & VR

Since 2016, working with 360 photography and VR — extending traditional IT into immersive visual capture.

Video security

Designed and installed multi-camera surveillance (including an 8-camera system) for business security and activity recording.

Software support

Broad install, configure, and support experience. Software is a love/hate relationship — powerful when it works; painful when updates break things.
